Jon Bon Jovi  – Keeping the Faith

John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the son of former Marine John Francis Bongiovi, Sr. and another former US Marine, later turned Playboy Bunny – Carol Sharkey.

It was on his mother's side that he discovered he had distant Russian relatives: her grandmother's name was Anna Reherkowitz, and she came to the United States at the end of XIX century either from Lithuania or Poland, then part of the Russian Empire, or from Russia proper – depending on the census.

Interestingly, he is a blood relative of the famous singer Frank Sinatra – through relatives on his father's side, who was ethnic Italian.

John spent most of his youth skipping school to play music, including in local bands with friends and his cousin Tony Bongiovi, who owned the legendary independent New York recording studio, The Power Station. Tony would later play an instrumental part in Jon's career...

When Jon Bon Jovi was 17, he was earning money by sweeping the floors at Tony's studio. His cousin, in need of someone to help with some peculiar vocals for the Christmas in the Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album recording, employed his singing services for the track "R2-D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas". This became the first professional recording  of "John Bongiovi", as Jon was credited, and launched his career.

The career would span for several decades and include the creation of his Bon Jovi band in 1983  Since then, he has released two solo albums and twelve studio albums, selling well over 130 million albums worldwide (Bon Jovi is in the Top 10 of world's best-selling music groups). In 2009 Jon was inducted in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1989, during a tour with his band, he secretly wed his high school girlfriend Dorothea Hurley in Las Vegas. Unlike many a marriage concluded in a roadside chapel, theirs has been strong: they have four children together!

In addition to music. Jon Bon Jovi also tried himself in several movies, including Moonlight and Valentino and U-571, and also had guest roles on TV series, such as Sex and the City and Ally McBeal. According to the People magazine, he is one of the 50 Most Beautiful People In The World and the Sexiest Rock Star.
