Nicole Scherzinger – from "girl-groups" to serious fame ...

Nicole Scherzinger was born Nicole Prescovia Elikolani Valiente in Honolulu, Hawaii.  She is of a mixed Hawaian-Samoan-African-Ukrainian descent: her maternal grandfather was John Ivan Lenchanko, Sr., of Ukrainian descent - son of Ukrainian immigrants Dimitri Lenchanko and Paraskovia Zenchenko.

She got her middle name «Prescovia» after her grandmother who lived in Vladivostok.

While a teenager, she performed with several pop girl-bands, with limited success. She achieved true fame only in 2003, after becoming the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, a burlesque troupe turned-recording act, and releasing such worldwide hits as "Don't Cha", "Stickwitu" and "Buttons", "I Hate This Part" and "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)". Eventually, the group was torn apart by internal conflict and disbanded. Later Scherzinger won season ten of Dancing with the Stars (2010), released her long-delayed debut solo album, Killer Love (2011) and returned to acting with a role in Men in Black 3 (2012).

Despite popular opinion, Scherzinger is a serious actress. She majored in acting and musical theatre at Wright State University,  and at a certain time was working closely with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the musical Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.

From 2012 to 2013, Scherzinger served as a judge on the UK version of The X Factor, and then a judge for one season on the American X Factor in 2011.

In week 7 of The X Factor, Scherzinger was booed off the stage due to her choice of the candidate to be eliminated, and rumors spread that her future on the show was now in jeopardy. She even received death threats from some viewers.

Throughout her career spanning 13 years, Scherzinger has sold 16 million records as a solo artist, and a further 54 million with Pussycat Dolls, making the group one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. She has also been socially active, serving as an ambassador for the Special Olympics.

In 2012, Scherzinger publicly revealed her eight-year struggle with bulimia

Since 2007, Scherzinger has been in a difficult and constantly changing relationship with Formula 1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. The couple has split and reunited at least four times.
